British Sign Language (BSL) / English Interpreting

Clients may commonly refer to a BSL linguist as a sign language interpreter, but the more accurate term is a British Sign Language (BSL) / English Interpreter, i.e. an interpreter who works in both BSL and English who can assist in communication between Deaf and hearing people.

At Prestige Network, we understand the crucial role that a sign language interpreter plays in bridging the communication barrier between Deaf* and hearing people.

*The use of the word ‘Deaf’ (with a capital ‘D’) refers to a person whose preferred language is BSL whereas ‘deaf’ (with a lowercase ‘d’) refers to any person with a significant hearing loss.

British Sign Language is the first or preferred language of around 70,000 people in the UK and was recognised by the UK government as a minority language in March 2003. With the services of a sign language interpreter, proficient in both BSL and English, Deaf and hearing people can communicate with each other.

Our British Sign Language (BSL) / English Interpreters,  have the essential skills and expertise to provide sign language translation that conveys the words, the meaning and feelings behind the words, which are so often vital when interacting. The friendly and efficient service provided by our experienced and bilingual staff and having access to a database of over 5000 language and BSL/English Interpreters will ensure that you get an experienced interpreter who can address your specific needs whether you are an individual or an organisation in the commercial, public or private sector.
